Chandigarh: Sanjay Pahwa: Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today announced that a Commissioner would be appointed with in a fortnight to accord Divisional status to Rupnagar thereby conceding the long pending demand of the residents of the Ropar district.
Braving heavy rains and inclement whether, Mr. Badal today held a sangat darshan programme at Chamkaur Sahib and Bela where thousands of enthusiastic residents of over 65 village panchayats and municipal towns of Chamkaur Sahib and Bela gathered to redress their grievances on the spot.
Addressing a well attended function at Chamkaur Sahib and Bela, the Chief Minister also directed the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd. to allot power connections for tubewells on priority in the common village land (Shamlat). Keeping in view the religious sanctity of the historic town of Chamkaur Sahib, Mr. Badal declared to be renamed it as Sri Chamkaur Sahib. He also assured the residents of Chamkaur Sahib to complete the Theme Park in the memory of elder Sahibzadas Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jhujar Singh of Tenth master of Sikhs Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji on the priority as this prestigious project was left midway by the then Congress government, the foundation stone of which was also laid during its regime.
Mr. Badal said that our government had given top priority for remodeling the social and developmental infrastructure in all historic cities of the state and as part of that programme, Chamkaur Sahib and Bela was being given new facelift by upgrading water supply and sewerage system and efficient road network at a cost of Rs.20 crore. He said that the work on these components would be completed by end of this year. He said that a sub divisional complex would be erected in this town at a cost of Rs.2.90 crore. He said that with a view to providing gainful employment training opportunity to the unemployed youth, four skill development centers and one ITI will be set up in the area. Mr. Badal also gave financial assistance to the tune of Rs.9.50 crore for the overall development of villages in the assembly constituency of Chamkaur Sahib.
Lashing at the Congress for rampant corruption, Mr. Badal said that Congress and corruption were the real brothers or we could say that these were the two sides of the same coin. Citing the examples of infamous alleged scam of Rs.1.75 lac crore 2G spectrum, Common Wealth Games scandal worth Rs.8000 crore and the Adarsh Housing scam, Mr. Badal said that scam after scam in the Congress led UPA government had exposed its real face.
