Wednesday, 17 Dec,Prabhjot Gill, AMRITSAR : Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday informed that decks have been cleared for the setting up World Class University at Amritsar.
Badal said that in this regard a high level central team would visit the city on December 25 to select an appropriate venue for this Rs. 1000 crore project with a potential to rejuvenate education scenario in the state.
Badal was here in the city to lay the foundation stone of Shaheed Baba Jiwan Singh Girls Degree College to be set up at Hoshiar Nagar village of Attari Constituency. He said that the proposed college was being set up by the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Amritsar.
Badal said that Punjab Government would shortly upgrade the whole education system especially school education in the state. He said that the State have already recruited more than 14000 teachers, released funds to the tune of Rs. 50 lac each for the overall development of three governments schools in each assembly constituency, setting up of eight new government colleges, one school in each constituency with a specific purpose to impart free education as well as books, uniform and mid-day-meal for the poor and needy students.
Talking about the numerous difficulties being faced by the people of border belt, Badal informed that till now funds more than 14 crores have already been released for the Attari Constituency. On this occasion he also handed over cheques of more than 5.50 crore for various development projects to the Panchyats of Attari Constituency.
Emphasizing on the need to strengthen the canal system and water channels for ensuring sufficient availability of drinking as well as irrigational water in rurural areas, he informed that Rs.28 crores have already been sanctioned to de silt such water channels.He further said for this programme of Rs. 3500 crore have been initiated to revamp the sewage and drinking water supply in the urban areas besides providing other basic civic amenities.
