Amritsar, July 25 (Prabhjot Gill) – Guru Nanak Dev University has banned Ragging in any form in the University Campus and directed the students to strictly desist form any kind of Ragging otherwise they would be sternly dealt with as per Supreme Court verdict.
Dr. A.K. Thukral, Dean, Students’ Welfare said the University has already incorporated the apex courts’ verdict in the prospectus and also circulated it to all the Teaching Departments of the University for displaying it on the notice boards. The posters regarding prohibtion, prevention and punishment of Ragging by the students in the University has also been put up at important places.
The Dean, Students Welfare said the students participating in/or abetment of Ragging would face cancellation of admission, suspension from attending classes, with holding or with drawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefits.
He said the other punishments for participation in ragging would be debarred from appearing in any test/examination or other evaluation process, withholding results, debarring from representing the institution in any national or international meet, tournament, youth festival etc., suspension/expulsion from the hostel, rustication from the institution for periods varying from 1 to 4 semesters or equivalent period, expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from any other institution and fine upto Rs. 25000.
Dr. Thukral said that as per Supreme Court verdict the forms of Ragging includes display of noisy, disorderly conduct, teasing, excitement by rough or rude treatment of handling, including in rowdy, indisciplined activities which cause or likely to cause annoyance, undue hardship, physical or psychological harm or raise apprehension or fear in a fresher or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such a student will not do in the ordinary course and which causes him/her shame or embarrassment or danger to his/her life, etc.
