TARN TARAN, Dec. 18 :Hosts Punjab ruled the roost on the concluding day of the inaugural National Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan Tournament (Group II) for boys and girls Under-16 organised by the the Punjab Sports Department at the Guru Arun Dev Stadium, here today.
Punjab outplayed Haryana in the boys volleyball final by 25-21, 28-20, 25-17. Karnataka claimed bronze after defeating Tamil Nadu by 25-17, 25-20, 25-20.In the girls final match Karnataka defeated Punjab 25-7, 25-6, 25-22to claim gold medal. Haryana got bronze by defeating Tamil Nadu 25-13, 25-21.
In the football final Punjab and Nagaland played a one-all draw in the regulation period and extra time. However, Nagaland team did not turn up after extra time and Punjab were declared winners. For the bronze medal Mizoram defeated Assam by 5-0.
The Punjab girls lifted the weightlifting trophy by securing 171 points. Andhra Pardesh got silver with 141 points and Uttar Pardesh bronze with 134 points. In the boys weightlifting Chattisgarh topped the tally with 208 points. Punjab and Delhi won silver and bronze by getting 189 and 149 points, respectively.
The March Past Trophy was bagged by Mizoram and Goa got the second place.
A vibrant gidha performance was performed by girls of Shree Guru Arjun Dev Govt. Kanya Senior Secondary School, Tarn Taran. The boys of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Govt. Sri Guru Arjan Dev Khalsa Sr. Sec. School, SD High School, Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa Sr. Sec. School presented bhangra.
Tarn Taran Deputy Commissioner Khushi Ram was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners. Padma Shree Pargat Singh, Director Sports, Punjab welcomed Khushi Ram.
