CHANDIGARH, August 11: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today condoled the death of three persons in the flash floods in Tarn Taran district. Expressing sympathies with the bereaved families he demanded immediate relief to the kin of the deceased. The PCC President revealed three deaths had been reported and the deceased have been identified as Sajan Singh son of Hardev Singh resident of village Sursingh, Sewa Singh son of Pal Singh of village Noorpur and Raju son of Tahal Singh of Tarn Taran town. All the three persons died due to drowning in the flood waters. Capt Amarinder had deputed three senior party leaders including Sukh Sarkaria, Rana Gurjit Singh and Dr Agnihotri to have the on the spot assessment of the flood hit areas. These leaders visited the flood affected areas yesterday and today and reported that situation was quite grave in several villages including Chahel, Lahian, Jharhi, Gandiwind, Dhand Kasel and Shishrewal where buildings were submerged. The PCC President disclosed that he was told, people were still waiting for relief and quite a number of them were yet to be evacuated. He said, the Tarn Taran town was flooded as the administration had failed to clean the Kasur drain running through the town.
With the result it got flooded and the embankment got breached resulting in floods and loss of precious lives. Calling for immediate relief measures, the former Chief Minister said that there was unusual delay in providing relief to the flood hit people. He said, administration must make immediate arrangements for food, shelter and medicines for the affected people.
