Amritsar August 7th, 2008-(Prabhjot Gill)——–Renowned environmentalists Mr. Sunderlal Bahuguna , Mrs Vibha Bahuguna along with Mr. Vedabhyas Kundu, Programme Officer, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, New Delhi and Mr. Parmod Sharma a Gandhian Peace Activist inaugurated a Peace Club in the D.A.V. Public School,
Welcoming the distinguished guests Mrs. Neera Sharma Principal of DAV Public School, announced that Peace Club members of the School will also open a ‘CHILDREN BANK’ in the school, which will be seeking donations of used toys, comic/story books and clothes from city residents for children living in poor families in the city. The Children’s bank would help to also help to coordinate donations in the form of toys and other activity based material to three other schools being run by the DAV Management including the recently adopted school for Physically challenged as well as another for the Mentally challenged from The Indian Red cross society. Apart from this the BBK DAV school at Yaseen road for the economically backward sections would also benefit from the new endeavor, she added.
The school principal also read out a letter of support by Mrs. Madhu Bahl, an eminent educationist and Principal KB DAV Sr. Sec. Public School, Chandigarh towards the new project who had stated that teachers and students of DAV Public School, Amritsar had accepted the idea to start a PEACE CLUB to promote the culture of nonviolence and tolerance in future generations.
She also stated that students that the world of tomorrow and the challenges facing humanity today, call for a reappraisal of what personalities like Gandhi offered, who was for equitable distribution of resources and social justice.
The school principal on the occasion said that for the better future of mankind, the issue of utmost importance is the need for right education to children ."A child has to be educated with love and kindness to become a responsible adult in future. And young peacemakers of the School can play a pivotal role in this direction, as when they pass-out from the School, they take with them virtues of love, compassion, tolerance and forgiveness in all spheres of activity and interaction.
Sharing his concerns, Mr. Vedabhyas Kundu, Programme Officer, Gandhi Smriti & Darshan Samiti, New Delhi, said the Children Bank is a good example to make a difference and bringing smiles to children in marginalized families. He also asked the teachers to involve the young Peace Club members to work for upliftment of girl child in the society, wherein they can promote a ‘Girl Child Friendly Amritsar City Campaign’.
