Amritsar, September 19 (Prabhjot Gill)–Dr. Raghbir Singh, Dean, Academic Affairs and Dr. A.K. Thukral, Dean Students Welfare of the Guru Nanak Dev University inaugurated the three-day Technical-cum-Cultural fest-IRIS-2008 here today in the Dasmesh Auditorium on the University Campus by lighting candles. More than 80 institutes of the region are participating in this three-day event.
This festival is being hosted by the Technical Students Society (TSS) of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering of Guru Nanak Dev University and sponsored by Accenture, Oceanic, Pepsi, 94.3 My FM, VMM Education, SBP, IMS, Radical & Aappin.
While addressing the students, Dr. Raghbir Singh said that the students had their recognition through their institutes and institutes are always proud of their alumni’s. Guru Nanak Dev University is better than other Universities as "this University has students like you who could think to organise this type of mega events", he added.
He said due to technical boom the work condition today has completely changed. He advised students to get acquaintance with other technologies along with their field of specialisation.
Dr. A.K. Thukral while speaking on this occasion said that today students are lucky enough to get all information through Internet and enjoying boons of science. During early days it was very difficult to get knowledge. He said students are the future of our country so they should work hard in their studies to serve their nation in better way.
Earlier senior student Mr. Sumeet Kumar of the Computer Science Department welcomed the Chief Guest and shared the experience of the student’s life.
Hashneet Kaur, Japleen Kaur and Parminder Singh said that the festival would include competitive events categorized as Technical, Management, Literary, Fun events, Fine arts & Cultural, Singing etc. Those events intend to improve the professional skills, overall personality and also tap the hidden talent of the students.
