CHANDIGARH-July 20, 2009:Population Research Centre working as State Facilitating Agency for Social Engineering Cell under Yamuna Action Plan-II organized a Workshop-cum-Prize Distribution and website launching function in collaboration with Public Health & Engineering Dept., Govt. of Haryana, Panchkula. Sh. R.S. Negi, Consultant PP&A from PMC, New Delhi first gave a brief information about Yamuna Action Plan and the importance including Public Participation under Yamuna Action Plan.
The Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Prof. R.C. Sobti gave away the prizes to the three best NGOs and the three best workers under Public Participation & Awareness component under YAP-II. Prof. Sobti was pleased to know that the NGOs are working with school children as they are considered the change agent for the society. Prof. Sobti appreciated the efforts put in by the several NGOs working in six towns of Haryana and also of the PRC as a Facilitator.
Sh.. Naresh Gulati, IAS, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Govt. of Haryana launched the website of the State Facilitate Agency www.sfa4yap2.com under Yamuna Action Plan. He also mentioned that the NGOs have successful in creating awareness among the community but still lot of efforts needs to be put in to achieve sustainability.
Shri A.K. Gupta, Chief Engineer, PHED, Panchkula lauded the efforts put in by the NGOs, but stressed that the NGOs should put in extra-ordinary efforts to make the project sustainable for the remaining period.
On behalf of the NGOs, Sh. B.S. Yatri requested the PHED officials to extend the term of the project for the year or so, so that more coverage could be done for achievement of better results and sustainability according to the Director, Population Research Centre, P.U.
