Chandigarh, May 28: Surya Educational and Charitable Trust has received the letter of intent from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) for setting up the technical institute on Rajpura-Ambala highway (NH1). Mr. Rajiv Goyal, the President of the Society, who is also the chairman and managing director of Rs.7 billion Surya conglomerate having interests in pharma, health retail chain and infrastructure, announced here today at a press conference.
Dr. B. S. Sohi, an academician of international repute and Director UEIT, Punjab University, Chandigarh who has consented to head the Institution as its Campus Director said that “the country needs to focus on quality education with employable potential and it is imminent that the corporate sector comes forward to take reins of tertiary education.”
Dr. Sohi said that excellent infrastructure, brilliant faculty, and a vision to empower the youth for the challenges of tomorrow will give the student a clear headstart to emerge confident and competent to get absorbed in any industry in the world.
Mr. Rajiv Goyal, Group Chairman further added that the Surya Group itself has substantial employable potential offering ample opportunity of placement to the pass-outs and is a part of its backward integration strategy to meet its requirement for quality manpower, and in the current financial year the group expects to employ about 1000 professionals to man various positions in all the group companies.

Besides Faculty of Computer Science, Pharmacy and Architecture, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology shall offer streams in Electronic and Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering, while the faculty of Management Studies shall offer specializations in the fields of Finance, HR, Marketing, etc for 2009-10 session.
The surya group will be reserving 10% of its total seats for economically weaker students, Mr. Rajansh Thukral, President, Surya Group said.
The sprawling hi-tech wi-fi enabled campus on 27 acres of land, named Surya Foundation, with its modern architecture and centrally air-conditioned classrooms and hostels, is equipped with controlled access, state-of-the-art digital learning aids, library, and sports facilities.
