14 Apr : The Election Commission on Tuesday allowed the submission of Punjab Pay Commission report to the state government.Disclosing this, state’s Additional Electoral Officer R L Kapoor said that the EC had given its permission to submit the report of Punjab Pay Commission Report to the Parkash Singh Badal Government.
The Punjab Government had asked the EC to review its earlier refusal on the implementation of the recommendations of the fifth Punjab Pay Commission. The EC had earlier turned down the Punjab Government’s request to this effect saying that this infringed upon the election Model Code of Conduct.
The Punjab Government had sought a review of the decision in the light of EC earlier giving a go-ahead to Chattisgarh for the implementation of Pay Panel report even while the election code was in force.
The Pay Commission had already finalised the report as per the terms of reference issued by the state Government on 3rd March 2008 and the Commission was asked to submit its report within a year by 31st March 2009, an official spokesman said in Chandigarh on Tuesday.
As of now the report is ready for the submission and the Chief Secretary has approached the EC to seek its approval, the official said.
The state cabinet had already given its approval in principle for the implementation of Pay Commission report in its last meeting held in the last week of February, well before the Model Code came into force.
