19 Sep :Ministry of Urban Development has approved Water Supply Project (Phase-III) for augmentation of water supply to Shillong, Meghalaya. The Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) of the Ministry has approved the Project in order to set up water transmission system in the State to cover all areas of Shillong urban agglomeration. The proposed project will improve the water supply scenario in the whole municipal area of Shillong.
The Project will address the major problems of water losses due to leakage in the existing transmission main and distribution system. The Project would be implemented by Shillong Municipal Board. The Centre has allocated Rs. 17414.748 lakh as total central assistance under JNNURM. First installment of Rs.5353.69 lakh, which is 25% of central share, has been approved.
The CSMC has also approved three Community Participation Fund (CPF) proposals in Guwahati, Assam. The primary objective of the fund is to create capacities in the communities to effectively engage and contribute in improving their living environment. Communities could submit projects for CPF approved through one or more areas Sabhas or in its absence by Community based Organizations. Small projects below 10 lakh are sanctioned by CSMC under CPF proposals. The proposal must be endorsed by the minimum of 51% of voters in the polling booth locality of the project area and signed by the elected representative of the ward/ area. The ULB concerned plays the central role in overall implementation of the CPF projects. The three CPF proposals approved by CSMC for Guwahati ,Assam are as under:-
