KOHIMA,31 JULY : The Dimapur District Administration organized a two day Training on Right to Information Act, 2005 for PIOs and APIOs under Dimapur district at Circuit House today, 31st July 2008. Deputy Commissioner Dimapur Maongwati Aier in his inaugural speech said that with the introduction of Right to Information Act citizens of India are no longer isolated in the making of Government policy. He said that Public Authorities (PAs) like Parliamentarians, Judiciary and Bureaucrats are answerable to the public through RTI and E-governance. Public Information Officers (PIOs) and Assistant Public Information Officers need to build a bridge between the Government and its citizens by exhibiting transparency while executing their duties.
While speaking on the responsibility of PIOs and APIOs he said that they should issue right information to concerned citizens within forty eight hours if it concerns his life and liberty, while any normal information needed by a public should be furnished within thirty days of submission of the application. He also cautioned the responsible officers that some penalties can be imposed under RTI if the concerned officers fail to provide right information or delay information to that applicant.
