10 June : A disaster management training programme was held at Phek District headquarter in DPDB conference hall on 9 June 2009 for village disaster management committees, Town Council members and NGOs under Phek division. The Deputy Commissioner, in his introductory speech said it is equally important for everyone to be prepared by identifying know how to tackle disaster as disasters strike without notice.
He stressed the need to impart disaster management programme to all the people to keep themselves prepared and aware as disaster may occur at any time, for which he called upon the trainees to have full knowledge to train the people.
SDO (C) 11 Phek, Razouvolie Dozo spoke on the topic ‘Disaster management plan’ and said that it aimed at minimizing social and economics disruption and to reduce loss of lives caused all of sudden. He pointed out that Nagaland lies in the vulnerable zone of earthquake. Dr. W. Tungoe, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Phek spoke on first aid and emergency health services and also gave a demonstration. The training on multi hazard preparedness, mitigation plan and awareness generation was presented by Phek EAC, Olemjungla Aier, Phek Home Guards Commandant, Kapu Mesen along with his jawans displayed search & rescue mock drill. The training programme was chaired by SDO (C) 1, Phek, Sangmai C. Imlong who expressed his gratitude all the participants and called upon them to create awareness either in the towns or villages. Representatives from villages and towns attended the meeting.
