Kohima,24 july : Everyday, there is chaos in Kohima town along the main thoroughfare route, entailing traffic jams, from morning till evening. Unless some streamlining measures are implemented now, the situation could get worse.
Everything and everybody emerges and converges onto the only main road, for moving from one part to another, for fetching one essential or the other. ‘All business lead to this road, all movements lead to this road, all requirements lead to this road’.
The KMC and the Administration have been pondering over evictions and demolitions, but is it enough? Because, with the growing population, the measures may turn temporary. The licensing authorities should diversify human activity and need, to location specifics. Every colony should have its shopping complexes, where the chaos should be distributed. The footpaths should be conduited to human road-crossings and flyovers, to stop usage of roadsides and footpaths as shopping complexes.
It is the locale singleness of human activity and transmutation along the heart of the town that we witness everyday, the ant-trail-like traffic movements. To aggravate the situation, hundreds of Manipur bound heavy vehicles and army convoys, regularly wedge through the town, with rights of way on the National Highway, the soon to be International Highway.
Obviously, an outer ring road with inter link roads could be the only solution to spread out the growth the capital town into a city. The growth already in witness along the northern direction is a tribute to the present government’s vision and planning.
