5 June : The Directorate of School Education observed World Environment Day at its conference hall today. The function was chaired by Director, School Education, Nipusilie Angami, who also led the gathering in taking the ‘Environment Day Pledge’.
Deputy Director & Section in charge, Pollem Tep highlighted the theme ‘Offset your Carbon Emission’. He said that the world is pained with global climate change (global warming). He said that climate change is happening and we also know that the causes are carbon dioxide (CO2) and other green houses gases (GHG) that we emit. He said that throughout the world human activities are unfriendly to environment. People fell trees for their timber and paper needs, for expansion of pasture and arable land to feed increasing consuming mouths, for habitation and industrial establishments, for supply of bio fuels etc.
Pollem pointed out some suggested environment friendly actions such as use of energy efficient gadgets for less energy consumption, alternative energy such as solar energy, safe paper use, reduction of carbon emission, besides other measures.
Earlier, the programme began with a short prayer by Joint Director, B. Tingshen. Addl. Director, N. Khevito Sema also spoke briefly during the function.
