30 Mar : As a symbolic gesture to show solidarity with global campaign for ‘Vote Earth’, Nagaland Governor, K. Sankaranarayanan along with officers and staff at the Raj Bhavan, Kohima observed ‘Earth Hour 2009’ by switching off all lights between 8:30 p.m.. and 9:30 p.m. on 28th March 2009.
The Governor earlier, in his speech at the floor of the House during the recently concluded Assembly session, had appealed to the people of Nagaland to join the rest of the world in joining the ‘Vote Earth’ Campaign as a gesture to address the global phenomenon of climate change.
The State government had also issued an office memorandum requesting all government employees as well as the public of Nagaland to extend their cooperation by observing Earth Hour by switching off ‘electricity lights’ during the stated period. It may be noted that Nagaland is the only state in the country where the state government officially took part in observing Earth Hour.
