20 Oct :Nagaland Government has formulated a comprehensive policy for Internet, website and e-mail usage to regulate proper use and to prevent any misuse or loss of data or information in the state government.
The policy is being formulated to encourage the government departments and their employees to use e-mail, Internet, departmental websites and other electronic media to conduct the business of government and to communicate with other officers within the government and with the general public. The policy also aims at gathering information and to develop expertise in using such modern tools and services with proficiency and to improve the responses to public demands.
The policy formulated by the department of Information Technology said that the intention is to establish a culture of openness, trust, integrity and not to impose un necessary restrictions.
“While the modern tools and services have enormous facilitation, they pose great vulnerabilities to the system through inadvertent or deliberate actions by departments or individuals in disclosing classified information in an unauthorized manner or for unlawful activities. There is thus a need to lay down policy framework for the government departments to use these tools and services in an organized manner to ensure security of information and network” Abhishek Singh, Secretary to the government of Nagaland, Department of Information Technology said.
He said, this policy is framed in consultation with various stake holders to help government departments/individuals to get benefit from the use of email, Internet and organizational websites. The Policy also aims at providing guidelines to government departments on use of electronic ways of communications for exchange of unclassified official correspondence in a controlled and efficient manner.
The policy also contains comprehensive guidelines for usage of Email, Internet services and security. Requesting all Administrative Heads of Departments and Heads of Departments to strictly adhered to the policy, Abhishek Singh said “it is the responsibility of every computer user to follow the guidelines in letter and spirit to ensure optimum efficiency without compromising security of official information”.The government web portal for state government of Nagaland has been created at www.nagaland.nic.in and websites have been made for all departments as per standard format.
