12 August :The Global Open University has introduced three years Bachelor’s Degree course in Hotel Management and Catering Technology on 11th August 2008. Minister of School Education and SCERT, Nyiewang Konyak inaugurated the programme at the premises of The Global Open University, Dimapur.Nyiewang, in his inaugural speech stated that the Global Open University, Nagaland was established under the provision of the Global Open University Act 2006 of the Government of Nagaland with a view to introduce vocational, job oriented and employment centric education in the North East in general and in the state of Nagaland in particular. He said that the state Government has taken bold steps in strengthening the activities of the TGOU, Nagaland for enabling the world institution building programme to develop adequate infrastructure in Nagaland in general and at Wokha, Kohima and Dimapur in particular.
He further stated Hotel Management School prepares students’ interest in hospitality career by providing the skills, knowledge and hands on training for professional development. He said that Hotel Management is a valuable opportunity to get ahead in the resort and hospitality industry. Hotel Management training can also provide the skills and professional development needed for leadership and general administration in operation.
Nyeiwang Konyak said that altogether 30 students have been selected through interview for the three years degree course which is to be sponsored under CM’s Corpus Fund and 15 lakhs has been released for the current academic session.
Pro Chancellor, TGOUN, Dr. P.R Trivedi in his presidential address said that the Global Open University Nagaland was established with a view to introduce vocational, job oriented and employment centric education for the young generation of Nagaland with a slogan ‘Catch Them Young’ as the course starts after 10+2. Others who spoke on the function were Secretary of School Education, E. Ezung, TGOUN Board members, Edward Lotha and Imrong Imchen. Vote of thanks was proposed by Special Officer, TGOUN, C.R Lotha.
