Dimapur,10 July: A two day State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) training on ‘Social Audit’ for village chairmen and VDB secretaries under Dimapur district is being conducted by the Department of Rural Development from 10th to 11th July at Go Karting, Dimapur.
Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur Maongwati Aier, while addressing the gathering at the inaugural function said that the department is conducting training programmes regularly on ‘NREGA’ scheme to sensitize the implementing agencies like the village chairmen and VDB secretaries. He said that they constitute the village planning board for good governance, as good governance is not only the responsibility of the government employees, but also of the village chairmen and VDB secretaries. He said various government schemes for rural development are being implemented through the village development boards. While speaking on rural development for self sufficiency, he urged the participants to maintain maximum transparency and accountability while executing the schemes. He also said that the department will check registration of total household number in every village from time to time for proper maintenance and to avoid bogus registration while issuing job card.
Later in the day a workshop on social audit was conducted by resource persons from SIRD that included Dr. Kedise Pucho and Dr. Phola Konyak who spoke on salient features & objectives of NREGA, transparency and accountability, public vigilance & social audit, social audit forum on mandatory agenda, preparatory plan, procedural and organizational requirement. Village chairmen and VDB secretaries from Medziphema, Dhansiripar, Niuland and Kuhoboto Blocks attended the training programme.
