Kohima,27 May: Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio today inaugurated the ADC office headquarter at Meluri which was also one of the oldest sub-division and a long standing demand of Pochury people. Heralding the inauguration as a great day Rio said that it was a significant event as earlier on the same day he had inaugurated Thore EAC headquarters in the same sub-division.
Rio expressed his profound happiness saying that it was a long felt demand since 1991 but which has come into being under his present government. Recalling his visit to Meluri the previous year he said that as a promise by his government it has fructified today in spite of delay and interruption during the short period of President’s Rule. With upgradation of the ADC headquarter he believed that more progress and development would follow while on the other hand he reminded the people to co-operate and work hand in hand with the government officials to create an atmosphere of peace in the area. He also stated that upgradation was in tune with the Indian Look East Policy and as the area is in close proximity with the international border having vast scope and potential for international trade and commerce and tourism.
Again while mentioning that Pochury area, which is a place with rich mineral resources, that are yet to be exploited and explored, he said that development activities would come as per the needs of the region in the near future. Therefore, he asked the public to co-operate with the DAN government to uplift the people of the area in particular and also to benefit all the Nagas in general. The mini cement plant at Wazeho which has a capacity to produce 150 metric tonnes per day also has the scope to be upgraded to 5000 metric tonnes per day and the government may take up upgradation very soon, he said. More industries are also likely to come out in the area in the near future, therefore the National Highway 151 will be improved for better transportation and communication. Rio also disclosed that under NLCPR an amount of Rs. 26 crores had been sanctioned for development of the road to Avankhu bordering Myanmar, for which the project will start very soon.
On the NPF led DAN government coming to power for second term, Rio said that his government will fulfill what he had promised to bring in an era of development to all under developed area, we have to lay a strong foundation so as to secure for our future generation.
Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice, Tourism and Art and Culture, Yitachu in his short address thanked the Chief Minister for his able leadership for bringing the administration to the most remote area. He reminded the public of their duty as a responsible citizen while getting developmental facilities from the government.
Deputy Commissioner, Phek Z. Thele chaired the function while the welcome speech and vote of thanks was delivered by SDO (C) Meluri, H. Hangsing and Meluri Town Council member, Tsavüpho Ngouri respectively.
The function was followed by cultural programme presentation by six cultural troupes. Those present at the function included Home Minister, Imkong L. Imchen, Roads & Bridges Minister, Kaito Aye, Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Kuzholuzo Nienu, Parliamentary Secretaries, Chotisuh Sazo and Pangnyu Phom, MLAs Neiba Kronu and Shetoyi, Advisor to Chief Minister, Z. Lohe besides a host of government officials, public leaders, students and well wishers.
