12 August :With only two days left, Nagaland is gearing up to celebrate the 61st anniversary of India’s Independence in a befitting manner on coming Friday, the 15th August 2008. While every town receive face lifts, security has been tightened to pre-empt activities inimical to National Day and to guarantee an atmosphere of peace on the occasion.
In Kohima, the main Flag hoisting ceremony will be held at Nagaland Secretariat ground where Chief minister Neiphiu Rio will take the Salute and address the people of the state. Besides, a number of programmes have been chalked out to mark the day’s celebration in the capital. Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries have been detailed to every District Head Quarters and Sub-Divisional Headquarters to hoist the National tri-colour on the occasion.
