Kohima , 30 July : The state government has reconstituted the Nagaland Consumer Protection Council for Nagaland for a period of three years with effect from the date of publication of the notification. A notification from the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, dated 11th July 2008 stated that the Council will consist of the Chief Minister,
Neiphiu Rio as Chairman and the following members – Kuzholuzo Minister, H & F.W , Vikho-o Yhoshu, MLA; K. Savi, Advocate; Chairman, Kohima Municipal Council; Director, Information & Public Relations; Director, Higher Education; Project Director, Information & Technology; Director, Youth Resources & Sports; Director, State Council of Educational Research & Training, Nagaland and Additional Chief Secretary & Ex-Officio Controller, LMCP as member secretary.
Representatives of Trade and Industry include President, Kohima Chamber of Commerce and President, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce. Women’s representatives include Director, Women Development Department and Chairperson, Naga Mothers Association.
The objects of the Council shall be to promote and protect the rights of the Consumers, such as:
(a) The right to be protected against the marketing of goods which are hazardous to life and property.
(b) The right to be informed about the quantity, potency, purity-standard and price of goods so as to protect the Consumer against unfair trade practices.
(c) The right to be assured wherever possible, access to a variety of goods at competitive prices.
(d) The right to be heard and to be assured that consumer interest shall be reserved for consideration at appropriate forum/fora. .
(e) Redressal against unfair trade practices on unscrupulous exploitation of consumers
(f) The right to consumer education.
The Consumer Protection Council shall meet as and when necessary but not less than two meetings to be held every year.
