25 Sep : Known as a land of festivals, Nagaland can become a center of entertainment because when there is entertainment it changes the mindset of the people. We want to make Nagaland a center of entertainment and we want to industrialize entertainment industry.
This was echoed by the Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, during a high level meeting held on 24th September 2008 in his official residence with government officials along with Korean officials Rev. Moon and Director Kim. ‘We want to change the mindset of gun culture to work culture through entertainment, he further said.
Rio was confident that Nagas have entertainment potential and felt that the coming of the Koreans to our land should take root.
Describing South Korea as one of the fastest developing countries who came from the bottom to the world level, the Chief Minister opined that Nagas should import Korean knowledge into our society. “By the end of this year something will be visible and by next year we will see the results” Rio maintained.
Director Kim an expert musical director in Korea highlighted on entertainment industry through power point presentation. Dwelling on the current status of entertainment, Kim said that through entertainment we can be ready for better future life as it acts as a bridge between different groups.
Stating that Korean Government used entertainment industry to change the economic scenario of the country, Director Kim expressed that he would like to use the Korean data base as a tool to apply to Naga society and make successful project based on entertainment.
Kim said that the structure of NAK would invoke the planning, production and post-production stages. He opined that Naga legend folklores and famous stories like the Naganimora can be projected through animation, so that Nagaland also reaches out to the world. NAK is the name of the company proposed to be opened in co-relation with Nagaland, where Director Kim will do all the necessary linkages. He plans to train the youths of Nagaland so that Nagas will be known throughout the world.
Kim felt that satellite will be the best for reaching out of Nagaland to the rest of the world. He said that NAK will be used as an advertising tool, with broadcasting station in Kohima. The planning and editing will involve the Naga and the Korean staffs, he informed.
The meeting saw the attendance of Parliamentary Secretary Information & Public Relations and Economics & Statistics, R. Tohanba, Parliamentary Secretary Irrigation & Flood Control, Geology & Mining and Border Affairs, Y. Patton, Chairman NHHDC, Dr. Nicky Kire, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretaries and Commissioner & Secretaries of various departments.
The meeting proposed to form a State Level Core Committee consisting of Additional Chief Secretary Alemtemshi IAS as the Convenor, Commissioner & Secretary Art & Culture Khekiye as member Secretary and IPR, Music Task Force, NEZCC and Youth Resources as members.
The Chief Minister advised the concerned departments to sit and discuss and work on the MoU at the earliest.
