17 Oct : The Khiamniungan Tsokum festival was celebrated on 8th October 2008 at public ground, Noklak town with Minister for Soil & Water Conservation and Land Resources Development, P. Longon as the chief guest. Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio was unable to grace the occasion as chief guest as the chopper in which he was traveling could not land due to inclement weather. President of Angami Public Organisation, Mhiasizokho Zinyü graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion P. Longon stated that it is a special occasion because he is representing the Chief Minister of the state and that every memorandum will officially be conveyed to the CM, requesting the government to fulfill the demand of the Khiamniungan people. He added that since Tsokum festival signifies asking for blessing, he urged the people to pray that the CM would come on the occasion of inaugurating Noklak Sub-division to a full fledged district headquarter in the near future.
Minister for Forest, Environment, Ecology & Wildlife, M.C. Konyak; Parliamentary Secretary, S. Heno, tribal leaders, ENSF, ENPO representatives from all the 126 Khiamniungan villages under Myanmar and 39 villages under Noklak Sub-division attended the festival. It may be mentioned that it was the largest function ever held at Noklak Sub-division where around 10,000 people attended the gathering. Presentation of cultural dances and songs were the other highlights of the day.
