Kohima,30 June: Former Deputy Chairman and Councillor of Kohima Municipal Council, Vipopal Kintso formally inaugurated the Kidima Women Organisation Kohima Women’s Cultural demonstration held at Kidima Community Hall, Midland Kohima on Saturday 28th June 2008 as the chief guest.
Kintso, speaking on the occasion said that inviting him to be the chief guest in the programme shows the essence of unity between man and woman. He appreciated the action taken by the women to arrange this demonstration. The united action of women creates a conducive society, he added. He said that in Naga society women need to play a more proactive role in the present scenario. He lamented that cultures are in threat of fading away, stressing that we have to preserve it.
The introductory of the programme was explained by Tenyisele Thol. She said that the demonstration programme includes training young girls in the skills of weaving, stitching by hand, grinding rice with wooden stick, cleaning rice by winnowing, looming and dressing up in traditional dress. She said that in the olden days people are afraid to steal other’s property due to the fear of losing more than what they steal. Exhortation was expressed by Senu Temi who said that traditional clothes are a sign of identity and good cultural identity must be preserved for the young generation.
Earlier, invocation prayer was pronounced by Zeluhole. Folk song was presented by Ketohole and Medehele and friends. The highlights of the programme were demonstration of the women’s cultural programme followed by community feast. Neiphrelie, Councillor KMC also joined in the programme. The programme was presided over by Akunu Rikha.
