13 aUGUST :The state capital Kohima is all set to celebrate the Independence Day on 15th August 2008. The day will begin with hoisting of the National Flag in all Government offices, public and private buildings at 6 a.m.
The formal morning programme will be held at the Secretariat Plaza with parade review by the DGP, Nagaland at 8:55 a.m just before the arrival of the chief guest at 9 a.m. The chief guest will take the salute, inspect the parade and address the state. Various awards will also be handed over by the chief guest.
Other highlights of the day’s programme include march past parade by over 20 contingents. Entertainment items will be presented by students of G. Rio High School. Chandmari Higher Secondary School and Dainty Buds School, Kohima. Brass Band of Nagaland Police and Pipe Band of 26th Assam Rifles will present a mass band display.
The evening programme will also be held at the Secretariat Plaza at 4:30. Prize distribution and cash awards to the contingents adjudged as best in the march past parade will be the highlights of the programme besides band display by Nagaland Police Brass Band and Pipe Band of the 26th Assam Rifles. The day long celebrations will culminate with the beating of the retreat at 5:30 p.m.
