Kohima,11 june: A Handloom Expo is underway at the local ground, Meluri town till 23rd June 2008. The expo is being funded by Development Commissioner (Handloom GOI) Ministry of Textiles and is organised by 21 Self Help Groups spearheaded by the Surourhu Women Group.
Assistant Director, Industries & Commerce Nagaland Vitsükho Nyuthe on behalf of the Director graced the function as the Chief Guest. He said that with India launching the ‘Look East Policy’ trade and commerce is set flourish in Nagaland shortly as international trade routes are underway. He lauded the various SHGs for organising the Expo. He further encouraged the SHGs stating that artistic touch with modern design can be applied in handloom.
Earlier special number was presented by Surourhu Women Group and invocation was pronounced by Rev. Chithosie, Associate Pastor, MVBC. Around 1500 people including heads of offices under Meluri sub-division attended the inaugural programme of the Handloom Expo. The function was chaired by Küse, leader Surourhu Women Group.
