10 Nov : With the declaration of the year 2008 as the Year of Capacity Building by the state government, District Level Half Marathon Race was held at Mon on 8th November 2008, organized by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports and Mon District Sports Council (MDSC) to promote awareness in physical fitness and healthy living among the Nagas. Exhorting both the winners and the participants at the Prize Distribution function held at Helipad Ground, the President KNSK, Yumah Konyak lauded the Government and the organizers for organizing the program and urged them to conduct the programme annually to explore the local sporting talents in the rural area. She also lauded the participants for their interest in the field of sports where Mon district has the maximum response from the youths. Congratulating the winners she advise them to maintain strict discipline with the spirit of true sportsmanship in any competition and also to practice regularly to bring honour to the district in the state level competition.
She also gave away the prizes to the winners Lange Konyak of Kenchenshu village, Honom Konyak of Shiyong village and Neamnyei Konyak of Monyakshu village for bagging 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively.
The program was chaired by SDO (Civil) Mon Sadar, Hiazu Meru. Welcome address was pronounced by SDO (Civil) Hq. Mon, Orenthung and District Sports Officer, Mon, Rato Pusa proposed the vote of thanks.
The competition was flagged off at Tanhai village twenty kilometres away from Mon town and ended at NST garage Mon. Altogether 110 (One Hundred Ten) youths under Mon district participated in the competition with enthusiasm.
