28 July : Gurbachan Jagat was today sworn in as Nagaland Governor by Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court, Chelameswar at a swearing in programme held at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima. Governor Gurbachan Jagat is the Governor of Manipur who has been entrusted additional charge of Nagaland by President of India, Pratibha Patil.
Born on 1st July 1942, Governor Gurbachan Jagat is an IPS (Retd) batch of 1966, Punjab Cadre. Among other posts that he held, Governor Gurbachan Jagat was the Director General of BSF from December 2000 to June 2002 and DG, Jammu & Kashmir from February 1997 to December 2000. He also headed the intelligence/security apparatus as DIG (1982 – 1990). Governor Gurbachan Jagat further held the post of Chairman UPSC from April 2006 to June 2007 and was a member UPSC from August 2002 to March 2006.
Governor Gurbachan Jagat is a recipient of Padmashree -1987, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service – 1992, Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service – 1982, J & K Government ‘Police Officer of the Year’ 2001, Paschimi Star, Sangram Medal, Special Duty Medal (Punjab and J&K), Aantrik Seva Suraksha Medal, Operation Rakhshak & Operation Vijay Medals.
