Kohima ,24 June:Nagaland Minister for Forest, Environment, Ecology, Wild Life and Excise, M.C. Konyak officially launched the Forest Development Agency (FDA) and Jhum project at District Forest Office, Mokokchung on 23rd June, 2008.
While addressing the gathering at the inaugural function, the Minister appealed to the people to preserve forests in order to maintain ecological balance and encouraged them to grow more trees in their surroundings. The Minister also distributed Rs. 50,000/- each to 20 Village Forest Committees for the development of their respective village forestry. The following are the village forest committee beneficiaries- Chubayimkum, Kubza, Chungtia, Khensa, Longpa, Kubolong, Chakpa, Satsukba, Nokpu, Saring, Wameken, Anaki, Dibuia, Mongen, changdang, Lakhuni and Atophumi.
The function was attended by Advisor, Bamboo Mission, Temjen MLA, Commissioner & Secretary, Forest, L. Kire, Chief Conservator of Forests, I. Panger Jamir, DFO T. Sosang Longchar, Village Forest Committee members from 20 villages in the district, government officials and public leaders.
