Kohima ,1 Aug : A District Level Committee (DLC) to monitor the violation of Section 5 of the Indian Tobacco Control Act 2003 has been constituted by the state government. A notification issued by Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Health & Family Welfare Department, Menukhol John, stated that the DLC will have the District Magistrate/Deputy Commissioner as Chairman and members including District Superintendent of Police,
District Public Relations Officer, Drug & Food Inspector, representative of a leading NGO working in the field of Health/Tobacco Control, Principal of a leading College in the district, besides an Academician/Psychologist/Sociologist (one each to be nominated by the District Magistrate).
The scope of the Committee will be to provide a forum where the public may lodge a complaint regarding direct, indirect/surrogate advertisement(s) of tobacco and allied products in the media (print as well as electronic) and take action on the same as per procedure; review action taken by the committee for enforcement of Section 5 of the Indian Tobacco Control Act 2003 and to immediately bring to the notice of state and central government if any programme is affecting public order.
