18 Sep : The Dimapur Administration conducted a one day training on disaster risk management programme for Town Councilors of Medziphema, Chümukedima and Municipal Members of Dimapur at circuit house on 18th September 2008.
ADC & Nodal Officer, Dimapur Municipal Council, Sedevikho Khro in his remark said that Dimapur Municipality is not the responsibility of the councilors alone but it is the responsibility of every individual. Therefore, as municipal members they need to play a vital role in updating themselves on disaster management in order to sensitize the public in their wards and colonies for preparedness in times of emergency whenever any type of disaster occurs.
Citing the example of Dimapur district, the Nodal Officer said that Dimapur city came up without proper planning specially on building structure and traffic which are haphazardly placed in time of disasters. Therefore he urged the upcoming towns like Chümukedima and Medziphema to come up with proper planning, specially on building construction with the help of Town Planning and Town Council as the two civic bodies are the authorized body to oversee that Town Planning is properly carried out.
The resource persons for the programme were EAC Chümukedima, T. Henok Buchem who spoke on the topic on ‘Basic Concept of Disaster Management’, topic on ‘Water and Sanitation’ was delivered by EE PHED (Urban) Er. Yanger Pongen and topic on ‘First aid’ was delivered by Senior Specialist, District Hospital Dimapur, Dr. C. Kezo.
