KOHIMA,31 JULY : Deputy Commissioner, Mon, Dinesh Kumar, IAS along with a team of district officers visited Mon village on 24th July 2008 and held a meeting and interacted with the Village Council, VDB, VEC, VHC, WEMB and general public on various government schemes and projects.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner said that the purpose of the visit is to see the grievances of the people and also to assess and review the implementation of various government schemes, programmes and communitization process at the grass root level. Stressing the responsibilities and significance of the communitization process the DC asked the chairman and secretaries of the different committees formed under communitization at the village level to exercise their powers as per guidelines provided by the government and seek advice from the concerned officers for any clarifications. He asked them to maintain proper records of all the development activities for future reference.
Citing education as the most important development above all, which reflects the future development, the DC encouraged the villagers to send their children to school and avail the free education opportunities given by the government under SSA. He also asked the village authority to control drugs and other social evils influencing the young generation. Pointing out that the Village Council and GBs are the agents of the government, the DC exhorted them to discharge their powers and functions effectively for the benefit of the public and keep in touch with the district administration to provide peace and security to the people.
Regarding frequent blockade of district highway at Yaling due to extraction of stone by Mon village, the DC asked the Village Council to stop it for public safety. He also donated Rs. 5000/- (five thousand) to the Village Council.
BDO, Mon, Yulao Konyak, Deputy CMO, Dr. U.K. Konyak, Asstt. Development Commissioner, Mon, Zhothose and Project Director DRDA, also spoke at the function with reference to their respective departmental activities. They also stressed on the importance of planning on priority basis and the responsibilities of the village authority in communitization of the departments. The team also called upon the village functionaries to extend cooperation and support to government officials for visible development.
The chairperson, Hiazu Meru, SDO (C), Mon in his concluding remark exhorted the villagers to maintain sense of responsibility as a human being and said the purpose of the visit is to create awareness and transparency. Earlier, opening prayer and eelcome address was proposed by Pastor and Village Council Chairman respectively.
The team also paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Angh of Mon village. They also visited GMS and Agri- Link Road constructed under NREGS and interacted with the VEC and Village Council where they discussed and shared their view on implementation task and difficulties.
