Kohima ,29 july : A host of DAN Legislators comprising of Minister for Road & Bridges, Kaito, Minister of Agriculture, Chumben Murry, Deputy Speaker, Ralanthung, Parliamentary Secretaries, Y. Patton, Er. W. Kithan and MLA Shetoyi visited the ongoing construction works of Wokha Merapani road on 28th July 2008. The Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Wopen Lotha and Additional Chief Engineer D. Mero and host of government official accompanied the dignitaries. The Legislators held a meeting at the official residence of ADC Bhandari with some intellectuals and NGOs leaders from Bhandari. During the discussion Minister Road & Bridges Kaito acknowledged the necessity of completion the Wokha Merapani road within the stipulated period and said that the reason why he inspected the road construction works was because of some reports of slow progress of the works.
All four Assembly representatives of Wokha district told the public during the discussion that no land owners’ issues will be entertained in connection with the construction of Wokha Merapani road. They also agreed during the meeting that each Assembly Constituency in the district will take the responsibility of respective areas affected by the road constructions till completion.
Parliamentary Secretary Y. Patton expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and said that the government has sanctioned 400 personnel of Village Guards for Wokha district during the tenure of the DAN government. In this connection he reminded the public that the deployment of Village Guards is proposed for the villages lying in the border areas. The team also visited State Agricultural Seeds Farm, Merapani (Nagaland) on the same day and held a meeting with the public at the farm. In the meeting Minister for Agriculture Chumben Murry and his colleagues advised the people living in the border areas to play a vital role for cordial relationship with their counterpart Assamese people so as to maintain conducive and peaceful atmosphere in the border areas.
