PASIGHAT, Dec 11: The workers engaged in building and construction in the state should get their names registered with the Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APB & OCWWB) so that they can get the benefits due to them, said Tako Dabi, Home Minister said today.
An awareness campaign organized by the All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union (AAPWU) East Siang unit in collaboration with the district Labour Officer Incharge Onyok Pertin as a part of legal literacy program for unorganized and unregistered labourers/workers here on Saturday at the Solung Hall. Speaking on the occasion the HHM stressed on the need to spread awareness on labour welfare laws. He said this would help workers to fight exploitation and get welfare benefits offered by the board as well as the state government for the welfare of AAPWU.
Dabi said that authorities concerned should ensure that all the workers engaged in construction work must registered their names with the APB & CWW Board so that they could avail of the entitled benefits like housing loan, pension and financial assistance for medical treatment, maternity, education for children and accidental insurance etc. According to him such initiatives would lead better family life boosting up the moral securing of the workers in the state. Time and again Dabi pleaded for hard working, unity, health & hygiene, sincerity, honesty, dedication and devotion and further appealed the working class to be more cooperative and enthusiastic to the Dorjee Khandu led government which is sympathetic towards the conditions and cause of the workers in state. The HHM Dabi highly appreciated the efforts of the board chairman Jelly Sonam and his executives for their untiring efforts and distributed free exercise books to the gatherings on the day.
Speaking on the occasion, Board Chairman Jalley Sonam advised the labour community to help each other in time of need and urged the East Siang wing to get registered to avail the full benefits. Reading out the listed benefits he informed the benefits include housing loan of fifty thousands, tools advance five thousands, medical assistance five thousands, marriage assistance two thousands, maternity assistance one thousand, educational assistance, old age pension and disability pension one fifty per month. Financial assistance of fifteen thousand against normal death, fifty thousands against accidental death and one thousand for funeral etc would provided by the board, Sonam further added.
Earlier, the Labour Commissioner-cum-Secretary (APB & OCWWB) Ojing Darung in his deliberation elaborately said as per Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996 every building worker who is between the age of 18 to 60 years, engaged in any building and other construction work is eligible as a beneficiary and can submit the prescribed Application Form with a registration fee of Rs. 25/- along with required documents and photograph for registration.
The Deputy Commissioner Onit Panyang welcomed the Sonams efforts and stressed on insurance policies. Panyang assured to provide required land for construction of branch office building in district and advised to submit the application properly and immediately.
