Nagaland , 21 Nov : Medzephima Sub-Division was upgraded to ADC Hq. on 20th November 2008. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio graced the occasion as the chief guest. In the inaugural function, he said that Medziphema holds value of great historical background and has great potentials for economic development.
Medziphema has 21 government departments, 3 banks, 2 high schools, 4 middle schools, 23 primary schools, 6 private schools and 7 public health care centers which shows that Medziphema has all that is required for the people of the area. While congratulating the people for the effort to upgrade to ADC Hq. he said that the people need to work hard and urged the citizens of the area to extend their full cooperation to the administration and other government officials to bring more development.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that Medziphema is a ‘midway town’ between Dimapur and Kohima but in terms of its progress it is lagging behind other townships. He called upon the citizens not to make the newly inaugurated Hq. a ‘sleeping town’ but to catch up with progress and make it into an active and vibrant cosmopolitan town. The Chief Minister reminded the people that they should not depend upon the government for all developmental works but extend their contribution, as the government is always supportive. He also said that if the public do not work they would not progress.
On development of township the Chief Minister said that there should be a master plan first and everything needs to be planned. He also told the landowners to utilize land for developing their area. He said that the government does not do business but it is the public who has to come forward and start business to enhance the economy of the state. He suggested the public to set up small-scale industries, particularly food processing units and called upon the government officials to see that there is quality work in the town. He also urged the Town Council members and government officials to do proper town planning and come out with a master plan. Earlier the Chief Minister unveiled the monolith of the ADC Hq. Medziphema.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Rajya Sabha MP, Khekiho Zhimomi, Guest of Honour, Ex-minister Rokonicha, MLA K. Hollohon who represents 5 Ghaspani, 2 AC, Nagaland Commissioner H.K. Khulu and CPO President, Z. Makritsu.
Medziphema sub-division lies on the National Highway – 39, between Chümukedima circle and Sechü sub division. It is 30 kms away from Dimapur Hq. and covers 21 villages and 1 town. The area comprises of almost all tribes of Nagaland, the pre-dominant tribes being Angamis, Kukis and Semas. The total population of Medziphema according to 2001 census is 23,035.
