2 june, Kohima : The 9th general session of Naga Hoho was held at Peren town from 29th -31st May 2008 under the theme ‘Fostering peace and Harmony’, hosted by the Zeliangrong Baudi. On Friday Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio was the chief guest. In his speech the Chief Minister said that Naga tribal organisations represent the voice of the Naga people.
The senseless killing among Naga have deeply hurt the sentiments of the people. He said that at a time when the cry for the people is for peace and progress, it is most unfortunate that we Nagas are killing among ourselves. He also cautioned that people should not undermine the Naga political issue by terming it as a mere law and order problem. Rio said on the issue of Naga integration the state government and the NPF party remain committed to this aspiration and would continue to support the voice of the people. He appealed to all underground factions to stop hostile and fratricidal killings among national workers and go to their designated camps. He called for attention towards the Naga families in Myanmar who have been suffering for decades instead of fighting among ourselves, adding that it should be our moral duty to take up the cause with the Government of India and Myanmar.
The programme was chaired by Kenyuseng Tep, Assembly Secretary, Naga Hoho. Other highlights of the programme included solidarity message by President ENPO, President NMA, DBs and GBs Joint Forum, special numbers by Oriental Theological Seminary, Presidential address by Keviletuo Kiewhuo, Vice President, Naga Hoho. The CM was accompanied by Home Minister, Imkong L. Imchen, Planning Minister, T.R. Zeliang, Power Minister Doshehe, Parliamentary Secretaries and government officials. About two thousand people from various tribes attended the general session.
