24 Sep :The 3rd Foundation Day of Border Peace Co-ordination Committee (Assam & Nagaland) was celebrated on 19th September 2008 at Lowjan High School complex at Seleng Jorhat district under the motto ‘Love thy Neighbour’.
The programme started with the hoisting of flag followed by a mass prayer represented by different denominations of faith. The chief guest was B.K. Handique Union Minister of State for Chemical Fertilizer and Parliamentary Affairs, while legislators from Assam and Nagaland, Rana Goswami from Jorhat LAC, Rubjyoti Kumari from Mariani LAC, I. Imkong from Janpetkong LAC, L. Temjen Jamir from Tuli LAC and Er. T. Saku from Alongtaki LAC attended the meeting. Tiameren Aier, Ex. Minister and Shitovi Sema, Dy. Director, Border Affairs from Nagaland side participated in the meeting.
The chief guest praised the committee for the unceasing efforts in maintaining peace and tranquility and its outreach mission for the benefit and welfare of the people living in the border areas. He further call upon the people to maintain the same spirit and to create an environment of love and peace in the days to come. HE also assured all possible help to the committee for the achievement of its vision. All the legislators present from both the state share their views.
The retrospection of the committee was explained by Er. Temsuwati DIO (NIC) Mokokchung and co-ordinator of the BPCC (Assam & Nagaland). He hinted that certain percentage of local area development fund of the legislators of border area in either side be earmarked and allotted to BPCC (Assam & Nagaland) as a regular source of income. Moreover, BPCC (Assam & Nagaland) be given official recognition from both the government, expansion of BPCC (Assam & Nagaland) operation zone be extended through the entire border belt throughout Assam & Nagaland.
Administrative and police officials led by Lichemse Sangtam, ADC, Tuli representing D.C Mokokchung, T. Sosang Longchar, DFO, Mokokchung, Dr. Benjung Aier, Mission Director, Horticulture Kohima and many officers were present. L.S. Changsan, DC Jorhat, Deepak Chaudury, SP Jorhat led the Assam team. The function was chaired by its central committee president B.P. Bora. Cultural extravaganza was presented by Yajang and Lirmen villages. Besides the district units, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Ao Senden, media persons from Mokokchung, besides All India Radio Mokokchung attended the meeting. The programme also included a free medical health camp by National Rural Health Mission Jorhat. The day long programme culminated with a community feast.
