The 2nd day on Capacity Building Workshop on e-Governance held at Zonal Council Hall kohima was attended by HODs, Jt. Secreatries and departmental Nodal Officers (IT). The workshop projected on the design and implementation of e-Government Projects with different experts outlining the importance of e-governance backed up by power point presentation.
Secretary for Information Technology, Abhishek Singh, highlighted on the status of e-governance programme (NeGP) and other government imitative in the state of Nagaland. He also gave insight of e-governance road map for the state of Nagaland. He stated that Nagaland was comparatively lacking on e-governance and information technology when compared to the southern states which are much developed and have implemented various programme which we have to also initiate. Though late we are also on track and we have to move ahead with others, he said.
He added that it was the state policy to promote e-governance, to make IT as a tool to bridge connectivity among all section of the people including the rural and remote places. Therefore some IT infrastructures such as LAN at Secretariat and RF network with 40 Directorates, Video Conferencing in all districts, network connectivity to 38 subsidiaries and 52 CICs, launching of e-modop public grievance portal and implementation of Sarathi and Vahan Projects by NIC are some of the projects which have been implemented since the initiation of e-governance in the state in 2004.
He also cited some factors such as leadership and political will as shown by the CM of Nagaland, English background of the people and other related factors as a plus points for implementation of e-governance and IT related projects in Nagaland.
Abhishek Singh also highlighted on the role of the directorate of IT such as to manage and implement the national e-governance programme, to provide technological and other assistance to all departments, to establish the core IT infrastructure from the state to block levels and also to set up a data base in Kohima so that datas can be stored, retrieved and referred to any time as and when required. He added that through e-modop which was initiated by the government, public grievances can be received and addressed online. He further called for government process transformation and re-engineering in the service sector so that the government procedures can be simplified for the public benefit.
