By Kimberly Rowe, Mumbai – A headline you’ve perhaps seen lashing across the newspapers every monsoon. Since Thursday, continuous showers were received in the city leading to flooding and landslides in many areas. The smooth running of trains and road traffic were disrupted on Saturday. At the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport too, flights were affected due to the rains continuing onto Sunday. It was said that visibility dropped drastically below 450 metres. Flight operations were suspended twice between 10.10 a.m. and 10.20 a.m. and between 10.30 a.m. and 10.39 a.m. However, present conditions are almost normal.A friend said, “Having to leave at 6.00 a.m. on Sunday for a trip to Khopoli Waterfalls, I had a hard time with my sprained ankle as there was no taxi in sight to reach me to my bus stand and in the end I had to give up all hope of what could be an enjoyable Sunday for me. In the bargain, my umbrella got thrown over by the howling wind and I was drenched with the rain which was travelling literally in a horizontal direction.”
So dear Mumbai-ites, if you want something to do while it’s raining cats and dogs, you could watch your favourite movie or catch up with your old friends, with a steaming cup of coffee and a hot plate of pakoras in hand! That’ll surely make up for the gloomy weather being faced by you and me!
