Mumbai, Kimberly Rowe : Mahila Mandal Federation’s campaign MakeMySpace stands for girl’s rights to education, speech and expression, to live a life of dignity and respect in an equal society.
On 25th May 2016, Chembur station witnessed a group of girls with powerful messages on posters and banners to question existing unequal social norms. Similarly, peaceful groups of girls walked through the streets of Shivaji Nagar, Nirankari Colony and Vashi Naka on 26th May 2016.
Mumtaz Shaikh, a team member, said “We mapped unsafe places for girls in their communities and thereby, MakeMySpace campaign aims to ensure girl’s safety in any street, freedom from eve-teasing, universal access to playgrounds, independence to pursue education and choice of career.”
