Maharashtra government has declared that students from Madarsas not teaching Maths, Science and Social Sciences will be considered out-of -school.However the government assured that madarsas won’t be de-recognised and their grants will continue.
State has also planned a survey on July 4 to identify such ‘out-of-school’ children. According to official data, there are about 1,889 madrasas in Maharashtra, imparting education to over 1.48 lakh students.
Meanwhile, a PIL in the Bombay High Court said that the government cannot exclude over 1 lakh Madrasa students. It also alleged that the government’s plans to survey Madrasas violates the rights of the children.
