Tributes were paid to army officers and personnel who laid down their lives in Kargil War, at a function held to mark Kargil Victory Day at Zila Sainik Board, Bhopal. Families of martyred soldiers, senior officers of army and administration, ex-servicemen and their family members were among those present at the function organised at Sainik Vishram Grih here.
At the function, people paid tributes to Kargil martyrs belonging to Bhopal include Major Ajay Prasad, Major Joji Joseph, Captain Devashish Sharma and CFN Ram Swaroop by offering flowers to their portraits and observing two minutes’ silence.Colonel Sonam Wanchuk and Colonel B.B. Vatsa, who had taken part in Kargil war, shared their memories of Kargil war. They informed that India emerged victorious in the Kargil war since the officers and soldiers of the Indian army kept their morale high despite adverse conditions. Officers of the administration and public also fully cooperated in fighting the enemies. Air Marshal V.K. Verma made the audience aware of laudable cooperation of Air Force in capturing Tiger Hill in the Kargil war.
Colonel Ashok Kumar gave detailed information about the War Memorial established in the memory of soldiers and officers of army who got martyred in the Kargil war. He exhorted ex-servicemen to visit the War Memorial by considering it as a pilgrimage and must pay tributes to martyrs. General Sinho described Kargil as one of the major battles of the world in which the country emerged victorious due to valour and courage of Indian Army and its young soldiers.
Collector and Zila Sainik Board president Shri Nikunj Kumar Shrivastava while paying tributes to martyrs of Kargil war lauded the courage of the soldiers and their families. A vote of thanks was proposed by Joint Director of Armymen’s Welfare Directorate Colonel V.K. Chaube.
Family members of martyred armymen including Shri S.N. Prasad, Smt. Mini Joji and Smt. Savita Deve were specially present on the occasion.
