Minister of State for Woman and Child Development (independent charge) Smt. Ranjana Baghel has appealed to people’s representatives, social workers, voluntary organisations and parents to take active part in Beti Bachao Abhiyan. For rectifying sex ratio, future parents should take a resolve that they will not resort to embryo killing. Facts and figures of child and mother mortality rates and health also show that equal birth right will have to be given to both boys and girls if we wish to provide a safe and healthy atmosphere to children in the future. She said that a girl has the same right to take birth as a boy has. Society will have to end discrimination against both. Only then we can keep our future safe. We can concretise concept of women’s empowerment by giving protection to girl children.
According to Smt. Baghel, for brining depleting sex ratio at par, on one hand males will have to change their mindset and on other hand women will have to become aware and oppose embryo killing. She said that people should consider daughters as boon and not burden. Society will have to rise above the thinking of considering girls a burden if we wish to improve sex ratio. The State Government has taken the initiative of launching Beti Bachao Abhiyan with this in mind. All of us should make this meaningful initiative successful.
Smt. Ranjana Baghel informed that atmosphere in favour of girls is already prevailing in the state. In the wake of launch of such schemes as Ladli Laxmi, Sabla, Kishori Shakti, free bicycles and uniform, Pratibha Kiran, Gaon Ki Beti etc, girls are no longer burden on anyone and are on the way to becoming self-reliant. She said that Beti Bachao Abhiyan should become a campaign of every person and all sections of society. Active participation of society is necessary for making this campaign successful.
