Madhya Pradesh : The drive to remove unauthorised red or yellow beacon lights from government and private vehicles will get underway from Wednesday. Directives to this effect were given by Home Minister Shri Umashankar Gupta at a meeting held at Mantralaya on Tuesday. He directed that the drive should be started from Vallabh Bhavan and police headquarters.
Home Minister Shri Gupta said that complaints are being received constantly that anti-social elements are using red-yellow beacon lights for committing crimes. He said that for removing this problem, it is necessary that only people’s representatives and officers use red-yellow beacon lights.
Shri Gupta has urged concerning people to help remove unauthorised beacon lights from vehicles. He said that first of all beacon lights will be removed from officers’ vehicles and then from others’ vehicles. Shri Gupta said that the persons not entitled for beacon lights should remove the same themselves.
The Home Minister said that dealers of red-yellow beacon lights should sell the same only to persons carrying authority letter. Similarly, drivers of VIP duty private vehicles must also have order issued by Transport Office regarding use of red-beacon. Guidelines to this effect will be sent by the Additional Secretary Home to all the district collectors and SPs.

Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court, Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Ministers/Ministers of State of Madhya Pradesh, Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker, all the judges of Madhya Pradesh High Court, Lokayukta/Chief Information Commissioner, Deputy Lokayukta/Information Commissioner, Madhya Pradesh, Deputy Ministers/Parliamentary Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, Leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha, former Chief Ministers, Vice-Chairman State Planning Board, Chairmen Public Service Commission, Chairman Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission, Chairman Madhya Pradesh Arbitration Commission, State Election Commissioner, Advocate General/Additional Advocate General, Chief Secretary, Chairman Revenue Board, Principal Secretary Home, Principal Secretary/Secretary Vidhan Sabha and Director General of Police, Madhya Pradesh.
Eligibility of yellow beacon light
Divisional commissioner, member Revenue Board Madhya Pradesh, Transport Commissioner, Excise Commissioner, Zonal IGs/IG Fire Brigade Service, district collector/district judicial magistrate, district and sessions judge and chief judicial magistrates/all the judicial officers of the state, Range DIGPs, superintendents of police, mayors of municipal corporations, chairpersons of municipal corporations, chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of Zila Panchayats, State Protocol Officer, Deputy Commissioner Transport, Additional District Judicial Magistrate/Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate and all the executive judicial magistrates, Additional SPs/SDOP/City SPs, regional/additional/District Transport Officer/officers in-charge of flying squads of Transport and Forest departments, District Commandant Home Guards, City Inspector of Police/fire officers, district commercial taxes officers and officers of above rank in Commercial Taxes Department who are engaged in enforcement work, District Excise Officers and officers of above rank in the Excise Department who are engaged in enforcement work.
Purple glass blinker type red beacon light will be used in ambulances carrying patients. Flasher or non-flasher blue beacon light can be fitted on the escort vehicles of the VIPs who are entitled for red beacon light. Red, yellow or blue beacon light will not be flashed when vehicle do not carry VIPs. It will be covered with black cover.
Additional Chief Secretary Home Shri I.S. Dani, DGP Shri Nandan Dube, Additional DGP Traffic Shri U.K. Lal, Secretary Transport, Commissioner Transport and other officers were also present on the occasion.
