Bhopal : Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired a meeting of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication’s General Council’s meeting here today. General Council’s member and President of Press Club of India Justice Shri Markanday Katju praised outstanding works undertaken by the university during last 4 years and put forth proposal to extend term of Prof. Kuthiayala by 4 years, which the council passed. On the occasion, members of the council having completed their term were honoured with shawls and coconuts. Leader of Opposition Shri Satyadev Katare, Higher Education Minister Shri Umashankar Gupta, Public Relations Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla and members of the General Council attended the meeting.
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that university’s progress is satisfactory. It has established itself as the best journalism university in Asia. Constant efforts should be undertaken to ensure that the university further improves as per international norms. Extending heartiest greetings of new term to Prof. Kuthiayala, the Chief Minister hoped that university will continue to move in the right direction under his leadership. He also thanked members on completion of council’s 4-year term. He said that state government will provide grant to the university. Apart from the grant, respectable remuneration of superintendents of exam centres of the university, examiners and invigilators will also be fixed after consideration at suitable forum.
University’s vice-chancellor Prof. B.K. Kuthiayala threw light in detail on university’s 4-year activities. He informed that the university also organised 3 international seminars.
The General Council decided that services of guest faculties will be sought on monthly honorarium as per requirement. Rs. 30 thousand per month salary will be given to professors fulfilling UGC and A.I.C.T.E. qualifications and Rs. 25 thousand per month to non-PhD holders and those who have not cleared the NAT exam. University’s contractual posts were abolished and sanction was granted to regular ones. Under Shrikant Joshi Fellowship, Rs. one lakh will be provided by Journalist Welfare Trust and similar amount by the university.
The meeting decided to constitute a committee headed by Public Relations Minister for effective discharge of university-related works. Similarly, it was also decided to constitute a committee to purchase building for Noida campus of the university.
