SMS-alert scheme is going to be implemented soon as part of another major and effective initiative in the direction of improving public distribution system. Thanks to the new scheme, the pretext of fair price shop owners about non-availability of stock and returning the consumers empty-handed will now cost dear to owners of the shops. In this connection, Directorate of Civil Supplies has started registration of consumers on the website www.mp.gov.in/mpfood.
Through SMS alerts, consumers will be given updated information about arrival of stock at the fair price shop of their area. The State Government has made its intention clear to the Food Department and its various concerning units about immediate implementation of the scheme. No laxity or indifference in the scheme will be tolerated and disciplinary action will be taken. The process of streamlining public distribution system had commenced two and a half years ago with a view to making it useful and effective. On the initiative of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the first step in this direction was taken by implementing new Food Control and Distribution Order. The entire system of running fair price shops has been tightened up by amending the 18-year-old order. The Central Government has also lauded the State Government’s decisions for improvement in PDS like timing of opening of shops and advance llifting of the allotted quota.
Consumers registered on-line to get information
Complaints used to come on many occasions that consumers were returned empty-handed from fair price shops by making the pretext that ‘such and such commodity’s stock has not arrived, please come later.’ Consumers used to register complaints that on this pretext fair price shop owners black-marketed the hoarded stock. The system of SMS alert has been evolved with a view to eradicating this evil practice. Through the alert, the registered consumers will be sent information from Bhopal that ration has been handed over to their respective fair price shop.
Format of registration fixed
It is also important to note that this facility is being provided to consumers free of cost. Registration for SMS alert can be made very easily on the website of Directorate of Food and Civil Supplies www.mp.gov.in/mpfood. As soon as a consumer will click on ‘For Registration’ button on the website, its format will emerge on the screen. After this, a registered consumer will be sent SMS alert about date and quantity of stock sent to the fair price shop every month.
