With a view to mobilising additional resources, Narmada Valley Development Authority will constitute a company. The new company Narmada Medium and Miner Irrigation Project Limited will be constituted after abolishing the existing Narmadanchal Madhyam Evam Laghu Sinchai Parishad. Precis will be put up before the cabinet in this regard. This information was given at a review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan here today.
Narmada Valley Development Authority Chairman and Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development Shri K.L. Agrawal, Chief Secretary Shri Avani Vaish, Additional Chief Secretary Shri O.P. Rawat, Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Anurag Jain and other officials were also present at the meeting.The Chief Minister asked the officials to speed up the pace of irrigation projects. All irrigation projects should be completed in time limit. No laxity and impediment in the way of achieving targets of projects will be tolerated. Shri Chouhan instructed the officials to put up supplementary demand to meet the financial needs. Besides, appointment should be made on contract basis for strengthening manpower.
Shri Chouhan categorically made it clear that there should be no delay in any project. Punitive action should be taken against the contractors who are delaying the works. The Chief Minister Shri Chouhan underlined the need for creating awareness and maintaining constant communication in terms of works being carried out by Authority.
It was informed at the meeting that an area of one lakh 27 thousand hectare has been targeted for irrigation for the year 2011-12 by the Authority. Fourty thousand hectare area will be irrigated under the Rani Awantibai Lodhi Sagar project while 15 thousand hectare by Man project and Jobat project will irrigate 9850 hectare area under the target. Similarly, under the Indira Sagar canal project, 33 thousand hectare area will be irrigated, nine thousand hectare by Omkareshwar canal project, 2000 hectare by Apar Veda, 14 thousand hectare area under Punasa Lift Irrigation Project. Besides, 4150 hectare area will be irrigated by Bargi Diversion project under the target. Last year, 84 thousand 915 hectare area was irrigated.
