Madhya Pradesh registered pulses production of 42 lakh 73 thousand tonne during year 200910. This year it is likely to increase to 46 lakh 61 thousand tonne.
The pulses production of 42 lakh 73 thousand metric tonne during year 2009-10 included 3 lakh 8 thousand tonne arhar and 33 lakh 4 thousand tonne gram. This represents an increase of 15.19 percent over previous year 2008-09 when pulses production stood at 24 lakh 73 thousand tonne.Arhar was sown in a total 324.87 thousand hectare during year 2009-10 while during year 2008-09 the area covered under arhar was 310.11 thousand hectare. Thus, a 4.76 percent increase was recorded in sowing of arhar in year 2009-10 over the preceding year. The arhar production was 24 lakh 73 thousand tonne in year 2008-09 which increased to 30 lakh 8 thousand tonne in year 2009-10. This increase was 24.73 percent.
Similarly, gram was sown in 2875.14 thousand hectare during year 2008-09 against which it was sown in 30.7 thousand hectare in year 2009-10. The gram production was 28 lakh 14 thousand metric tonne in year 2008-09 which rose to 33 lakh 4 thousand tonne during 2009.10, representing an increase of about 17.39 percent.
