Bhopal:Monday, August 11, 2008:Recommendations for introduction of Central Maternity Leave Rules and promotion of women in jobs on the lines of promotion given to the employees belonging to the reserved categories will be made to the State Government on behalf of the Madhya Pradesh State Women’s Commission.
A decision to this efect was taken at a meeting of the State Women’s Commission here today. The Chairperson of the Commission Smt. Krishnakant Tomar presided over the meeting. The meeting was also attended by the members including Smt. Upma Rai, Dr. Kamla Wadia, Smt. Sushma Jain and Sushri Manoram Gaur besides Additional Secretary, Law and Legislative Affairs, Shri Vinod Bhardwaj and Deputy Secretary, Women and Child Development, Shri M.S. Bhilala.
In addition to this, the State Women Commission took a number of important decisions with regard to recommendations concerning the affairs of the women in the state. It was decided that a letter would be sent to the State Government with the recommendation of setting up a Nariniketan each at all the divisional headquarters in the state. It was informed that at present the Nari Niketans are functioning at Ujjain and Gwalior. It was revealed that as per the existing rules children above five years of age can not stay with their mothers in the Nari Niketans. With the establishment of the proposed Nari Niketans at the divisional level, the children can have an easy access to their mothers. With regard to other initiatives, it was informed that the commission is persuing a proposal with the government not to put the mentally challenged women together with the normal women in the Nari Niketans.
Discussions were also held on other issues relating to construction of shelter homes for woman victims coming to lodge their complaints with the commission, redressal of difficulties experienced by women in seeking appointment on compassionate ground, holding of camps in rural areas, organising meetings of Health and Home Departments, organsing tours for the commission members to study the working of women commissions located in other states of the country besides availability of budget at the rate of Rs. 50,000 per district for providing immediate financial assistance to woman victims
The member secretary of the commission, Smt. Pragya Awasthi conducted the meeting. Senior officers of Women and Child Development, Law and Legislative Affairs, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Departments were also present in the meeting.
